Ancient Eastern cosmogony has it that the entire world is carried on the back of a tortoise. The Turtle of Willis is reputed to dwell at the base of each person's brain, carrying his or her entire consciousness on its back. If one could take the Turtle out and examine it, it would have these markings on its shell, showing the nexus of all the major intracranial arteries.
